IAC Advertising Solutions 

Creative Director/Custom Solutions Lead, January 2007–Present

Founded creative group within ad sales arm of internet conglomerate IAC/InterActive Corp; overseeing overall brand identity for IAC Advertising Solutions and running department that owns and manages the creation of custom advertising solutions.

  • Oversaw formation of creative group, organized internal infrastructure of the creative department, defined a clear vision of the group and its role within the company
  • Authored business plan that laid out a road map to bring the development of custom solutions in-house and transformed the creative group into a profit center
  • Reorganized workflow and process around development of micro-sites, sweepstakes, widgets, interactive banners, off-line events, and other custom solution from pre-sales through launch
  • Led design refresh of IAC Advertising Solutions brand which encompassed: PowerPoint decks, website, creation of internal and external newsletters and print sales kit. Website redesign won design award and included migration to a Content Management System for rapid updates to site content.
  • Conceptualize and develop new custom solutions offerings, working with other groups and a variety of sites including: Evite, Citysearch, Ticketmaster, Match.com, IWON, and others
  • Oversee creation of marketing and sales materials for sales organization of 20 plus sales people selling across a network of over eight premium websites
  • Oversee and approve all design work produced by staff, freelancers and external agencies; manage $800k budget and P&L of creative department; negotiate rates; create schedules

PlanetOut 

Design Manager, January 2003–October 2005

Initially hired as Art Director of PlanetOut’s Out&About—a travel magazine published ten times a year—managing all aspects of design and production of Out&About, Out&About Travel Guides, outandabout.com and promotion of all Out&About products in print and online.

  • Reduced production time for Out&About Travel Guides from two days to one hour
  • Led award winning redesign of Out&About that resulted in 18% increase in newsstand sales
  • Renegotiated printing costs, resulting in 24% savings while increasing quality

Transitioned to Design Manager of PlanetOut; overseeing corporate visual brand; creation of business-to-business marketing collateral, direct mail pieces and advertising; evaluated needs of sales team and coordinated delivery of all required tools

  • Led redesign of corporate brand
  • Created award-winning sales kit. Ad sales increased 20% after introduction of sales kit.
  • Developed creative for clients including: CareerBuilder.com, Citibank, Diageo, Lunesta

In addition, Creative Services lead on redesign of company’s main consumer portal; as well as managed and mentored staff members, including distance management of staff in Buenos Aires and San Francisco.

Digital Connection 

Creative Director, 2000–2001

Executive team member of firm offering custom software solutions and a web-based broadcast monitoring system—ShadowTV. Responsible for management of Creative Department, branding of the company and its products, and clients’ creative needs.

  • Worked closely with Marketing to develop brands, corporate identities, shape marketing message and create marketing materials for Digital Connection and ShadowTV.
  • Led redesign of User-Interface for ShadowTV

Columbia House 

Art Director, 1998–2000

Initially worked on print music catalogs for the largest direct marketer of music, DVDs and videos.

  • Regularly asked to contribute to special projects, including extensive redesign of music catalogs

October 1999—first Art Director selected for newly formed Creative Department of ColumbiaHouse.com.

  • Managed other Art Directors for weekly creation of ad banners
  • Worked closely with marketing as lead Art Director on co-branded websites

Industrial Strength Design 

Principal/Creative Director, 1994–1998

Founded, owned and operated award-winning design studio, winning 12 design awards in a one-year period. Client list included: AT&T, Ballantine Books, BMG International, BusinessWeek, Ellen Tracy, Geffen Records, Hearst Corporation, MB Interactive, Newsweek, Philips, Prodigy, Random House, Republic Records, Universal Records, Universal Studios.

Bill Smith Studio 

Designer, 1993–1994

Designed and produced K–6 educational books and magazines at studio specializing in education market. Introduced web development as a new service to company and led first web projects: provided art direction, management, client liaison, and participated in new business pitches.

Lipman Richmond Greene Advertising 

Art Director, 1992–1993

Hired as Studio Manager to migrate Creative Department of small fashion agency from paste-up to electronic environment. Responsibilities included selection, ordered and oversaw of installation of equipment and software; trained existing staff; assisted in hiring new staff; proposed and implemented modifications to existing procedures and workflow to better match new technologies. After transition was completed, role shifted to Art Director, working directly under the Creative Director. Clients included: American Express, Burberry, Dillard’s, JH Collectibles

Public Safety Publishing 

Art Director, 1990–1991

Hired to facilitate transition of quarterly trade magazine for firefighters from paste-up to desktop environment. Soon after the transition completed was promoted to Art Director. Went on to redesign flagship trade publication as well as design and launch new weekly consumer publication dedicated to saltwater fishing.
